RECYCLING AT HOME

On February 17th 2009, President Obama signed into law The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Recovery Act). In July, the Department of Energy allocated $300 million under this act for rebates for the purchase of eco-friendly appliances.

Individual states will have the responsibility of managing its own rebates and to decide which appliances will be eligible. Energy Star qualified appliances include: central air conditioners, heat pumps, boilers, furnaces, room air conditioners, washers and dryers, dishwashers, freezers, refrigerators and water heaters.

States wishing to participate in the program had to file an initial application to participate by mid-August, followed by a full application due by October 15, 2009.
