Last year, Barbara Walters asked the question, "How many people are at least 100 years old in the United States?" Surprisingly the answer was "more than 84,000 and climbing at an astonishing rate".
Research suggests that a contributing factor to acheiving such longevity may be the newly discovered substance called Resveratrol. According to Wikipedia, Resveratrol is a phytoalexin produced naturally by several plants when under attack by pathogens such as bacteria or fungi.
While there is insufficient testing as yet to verify results in humans, tests with mice have shown a marked effect in preventing damage to blood vessels, reducing "bad" cholesterol and preventing. Animal tests also suggest that resveratrol helps protect against obesity and diabetes.
